LIKE IT

If you are a woman, you know that putting together your wardrobe is 10 times harder than a man… and possibly 50 times harder when dressing up for a night on the town.

You’re almost there:

You have the dress. Its been altered.

You’ve found the right heels (matching the attitude of the dress).

Picked up milk, butter and nylons at your last stop to Rite Aid.

Scheduled your next haircut on the day of the event (built in style time).

… what’s missing you say?

Your unmentionables, your knickers, your undergarments, your lingerie, your strapless bra… no matter what you call them, they are a must have.

The complication behind a woman’s wardrobe starts with our curves. The amount of variables that make us each unique is vast and makes finding the right item hard to find. You could enter a department store and hope for good service or pass the slutty lineup of mannequins to enter what Victoria calls her secret, but I’ve got a much more practical place to go.

Harp’s is more my style. The store is just big enough to convince you they have what you need. It’s a boutique in downtown Birmingham that provides knowledgeable service. Forget digging up what you need. Simply step into a dressing room. A woman armed with a measuring tape is there to help you. Bring your dress along and account for those low lines to ensure a smooth, invisible (but boosting) fit.

Must Haves:
Longline Smooth Strapless Bra and Shaper

I suggest the Curves shaper over Spanx which has a seam in the middle of the front and back. It works fine with slacks but not when you have a dress that needs to look sleek and smooth. Forget about it, that thick seem will show through every time.

Husband re-proposes to his cancer-stricken wife
By JACQUELYN GUTC Of The Oakland Press

LOVE IT

I worked with Jason for over a year, both designers at a small studio.
I sat next to him and shared many silly conversations (over rubberband wars and plastic figurines), but we also shared very personal moments in our lives. Jason is not one to hide his emotions.

He opens his heart in the most honest and humbling ways. I remeber the day he told me his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. I’m a hopeless optimist and having seen both an aunt and uncle survive cancer, I wanted to ignore the fact that I had seen others loose the battle. I never wanted to admit what might seem impossible, but I had to this week. Lori, his wife and mother of two children had lost the battle when cancer had spead to her lungs and brain.

Believe it or not I left the funeral inspired. Jason, a man who believes in God, stood in front of a packed church and stated that he would never shake his fist at God. He was not Job. Job had suffured through much worse then he had. In a quiet moment of prayer God told him to smile when it didn’t make any sense. And he did. I’m often amazed at how intense moments of hurt and pain bring equally, if not stronger, moments of love and passion to our everyday lives. I left the funeral with all the power of love that had been brought together in that one church. The strength of so many was pulsing through me.

Flowers & Charm

The Parsonage Flower Shop

The Parsonage Flower Shop, Clarkston MI

LOVE IT

It’s a cute historic home with wooden floors and lots of charm…

NOT in a strip mall

From everyday pick me up’s to your big event they taught me that flowers didn’t always have to look so bland and grandma-ish. Their arrangements started a new creative outlet… and obsession for me.

The owners are a mother and daughter. If you get to spend anytime with them you will find out how silly and down right easy it is to love them. Can you imagine running a company side by side with your mother? Clearly this is a special place.

They have great antique/boutique inspired items for your home like mirrors, artwork, candles.. all those little items that add character to a home.

When I visit this adorned house I feel as if I’m stopping by a friend’s house to pick up a gift they have waiting for me… how could I possibly refuse?
